Depuis la sortie du WA-87 en 2016, Warm Audio a acquis encore plus d'expérience, une expérience qui a amené l'entreprise à vérifier s'il était possible d'améliorer la qualité du WA-87 de manière substantielle sans en changer le coût : le résultat est le WA-87 R2 (Révision 2). Le WA-87 est basé sur un circuit classique des années '60, reconnu universellement comme l'un des microphones de studio les plus performants jamais conçus. Warm Audio, avec le WA-87, a investi énormément de ressources pour se rapprocher autant que possible du son de la version vintage. Ainsi, le WA-87 R2 utilise des composants de très haute qualité tels qu'un transistor NOS Fairchild et des condensateurs WIMA en polystyrène à large bande passante. Le WA-87 R2 utilise un transformateur de sortie personnalisé, tout comme l'unité originale, avec la nouvelle version offrant un niveau de sortie plus élevé et une réponse en fréquence améliorée. Warm Audio a utilisé la même capsule que le WA-87, conçue selon les mêmes spécifications que l'unité vintage. Le résultat est une réplique sonore précise du microphone de studio le plus populaire de l'histoire de l'enregistrement sonore!
